Education is the most important part of anyone’s life. It makes an individual strong in mind and intellectual in thinking. Life without education is a flower without petals, a kitchen without utensils and a song without music. College and school both are the most important parts of any teen’s life. They shape a students personality and help them grow in life as independent individuals. There are a few parallels that can be drawn between the two.
From childhood to teenage, school is something that plays a major role in shaping us up adults. We learn the true meaning of adulthood in school. The morning assemblies, the attendance, the daily tests and the “parent-teacher meeting” all give us unforgettable experiences. As a person who passed out of school almost 2 years ago, it brings tears of happiness to my eyes.
Whereas, college is something that teaches the adult how to handle his professional life and what it takes to be a successful working person. School puts lots of restrictions on children. School kids are expected to be disciplined and follow certain rules and be punctual. Believe it or not, our life in school is a lot more disciplined than it ever will be as a college student. College, on the other hand, though it is bound by rules, the people are not really as particular about following them as they are in school. Yet, both of them have their own trinket!
The way of both teaching and learning is very different between the two! In school, we are treated more like passive learners who have no experience and knowledge whatsoever. Classroom participation is highly encouraged and sometimes also fetches the students extra marks. In college, students are expected be experts at “self study”; unlike in school where both teachers and parents make an effort to push the students and make them do better.
Now coming to the dress code, in most schools across the country, there is a uniform and the student is allowed to enter class only if he is in the correct dress code. Colleges usually do not have a dress code. Students can basically wear anything they want, unless and until it is decent and a bit formal, one may say.
Back in school days, no matter how rebellious we were as teens, we had to approach our parents for every tiny thing of our life. But in high school, our friends are our closest confidantes. And also one major change that I know of is that high school students usually do not stay at dorms or hostels. They usually stay with their parents and are over dependent on them for everything, as I already mentioned earlier. But college students, they live in dorms most of the times and have a few roommates who they share their room with. They are definitely more independent than school students are.
In summation, college life can sometimes be a bit irritable and tiresome but at the end of the day, it is those golden days of life that people cherish the most and wish for them to come back. School, on the other hand too, has its own perks and charms. They both shape our life and determine the kind of individuals we become when we grow up!
