MY EXAM FEVER

Exams are essential evils, people say. They are as important as important gets and as exhausting as exhausting gets. I remember not being able to sleep at nights and almost developing an insomnia just thinking about the exam I had to write the next day. Just thinking of it gave me jitters. “Is it really worth the time and effort?” I used to ask myself. But then the next morning, after a hot cup of tea, I started thinking about how would it actually feel to top my college and stand out amongst 5000 students. That feeling carried a sense of pride and achievement that I really wanted to have. But as rightly said, “one cannot have a million dollar dream on a minimum wage work ethic.” That was when I actually realized that hardwork is the only way to go and just dreaming about it wont help in any manner.

So the hard work period now begins. Sacrificing an amazing sleep to wake up at 4 in the morning to study, keeping away from almost every kind of distraction possible like the phone, television and probably the most important part of a teen’s life-the FRIENDS. Exams also sort of develop an unwanted feeling of jealousy in students when they realize their friends do have a chance to do better than them in finals. So the hard work now becomes even more hard. Another irking fact is that sometimes there are so many holidays between two exams that it almost feels like forever. This not only increases the time period of exams but also increases the stress levels of students. But alas! We are helpless.

Finally when the exams come to an end and the students feel like they can breathe a huge sigh of relief, the time for results arrives! This is another thing that almost does not let students sleep for days. The peer pressure and pressure from parents to do a good job in exams just does not grant the students any peace. It is a tough time indeed.

It cannot be denied that exams do exert an unusual strain upon the minds of students who lose the zest of their lives at the approach of an exam but at the same time it also is a good evil as it is a proper assessment of an individual’s hard work, learning and understanding.
